More Information Released In Jackson County Kidnapping And Murder Of 5 Year Old Boy And Assault Of His Mother

The Kentucky State Police Commissioner, Richard Sanders, announced Monday that the 5-year-old boy crews had been searching for since Saturday was found dead. Dozens of emergency workers, some mounted on horses, spent Sunday looking for five-year-old James Spoonamore. The family says there was a bizarre situation that led up to Spoonamore's disappearance. Police say a confrontation over money led to a family friend kidnapping the boy and his mother, Jessica Durham. Jessica was assaulted and pushed over a cliff in a wooded area. The family says the boy's mother is in the hospital recovering from serious injuries. Reports indicate the last time she saw James, he was in the woods and she didn't know where he went. His body was found a little more than half a mile from where his injured mother was found. Police have confirmed that 40 year old Lonnie Belt of McKee was arrested and charged with murder, first-degree assault, kidnapping and tampering with physical evidence. Police say he painted over the walls to hide Jessica Durham's blood from the assault.
