Eight People Arrested In Corbin Drug Bust

Laurel County Sheriff John Root says deputies were called out to a home on Adams Road near Corbin on a disturbance complaint. During the investigation officers found eight people there in possession of crystal meth, assorted pills and drug paraphernalia or wanted on warrants. Those arrested included Jody Melton age 31 of London, Savannah Minton age 28 of Corbin, Vanessa Lowe age 26 of Corbin, Harry Day age 26 of Corbin, Jewona Roark age 45 of London, Michael Thomas age 54 of Corbin, Kattie French age 24 of Corbin and Damien Wilson age 22 of Keavy. All eight individuals were lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center.

Clay County Sheriff Says He Wont Seek Re-election

Clay County Sheriff Kevin Johnson says he will not seek re-election in 2018. He says he plans to step down from his post. Johnson was first elected 12 years ago and started his carrer in law enforcement more than 28 years ago. Sheriff Johnson says he is contemplating challenging 90th District Representative Tim Couch in next year’s Republican primary.

Laurel County Police Looking For Escaped Inmate

The Laurel County Sheriff's Office is looking for an inmate that walked away from work release. 36-year-old Melvin D. Haggard was last seen off Kentucky 472 or Johnson Road around 1:40 on Wednesday afternoon. Deputies say Haggard is 5 foot 11 inches tall and weighs around 205 pounds. He has brown hair, blue eyes, a goatee and was wearing a detention center jumpsuit. Two Laurel County Women Arrested In Drug Bust

Laurel County Sheriff John Root says deputies and their K-9 "Edge" arrested two women on Terry's Drive off Old Way Road. An investigation there uncovered over 13 grams of suspected crystal meth, three sets of digital scales, two boxes of new plastic bags and 4 glass pipes used to smoke meth. 31 year old Whitney Wright was charged with conspiracy to traffic in a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. Also arrested was 25 year old Chelsea Roark charged on a Laurel County warrant for failure to appear in court. Both were lodged in Laurel County Correctional Center. Sheriff Root says his "War on Drugs" continues.

Knox County Police Make Another Arrest In Connection To Burglary

The Knox County Sheriff's Office says deputies made another arrest in connection to a burglary earlier this month at a home on Hinkle Branch Road in Flat Lick. 33 year old Lisa Michelle Branson was arrested after police last week spotted a stolen antique cast iron stove taken from the burglary in the front yard of her house on Payne Hollow Road in Bimble. Deputies had been looking for her husband, 37 year old Gary Branson, ever since. Deputies pulled over a vehicle this week and the driver turned out to be Branson. Officers say he gave officers a fictitious name, so in addtion to burglary and criminal mischief, he was also charged with giving officers false information. Branson was lodged in the Knox County Detention Center.

Motorcyclist Killed In Whitley County Crash

The Whitley County Sheriff's Office has released the identity of a man killed in a motorcycle crash Wednesday. Sheriff Colan Harrell said they were called just before noon to Kentucky 1064 also known as Whetstone Road, for a motorcycle crash. Deputies say 36-year-old Scott B. Bray died at the scene. Investigators say he apparently had gone around a curve, lost control, went over the embankment and struck a tree. Police are not sure if drugs or alcohol were a factor in Bray's death. Witnesses at the scene tried to help, but one woman had ulterior motives. When police arrived on the scene, they discovered a woman, identified as Alisha McElfresh, stole Bray's wallet while other officials were responding. She was arrested and lodged in the Whitley County Jail.


East Bernstadt Man Arrested After Alcohol Fueled Disturbance

The Laurel County Sheriff's Office says deputies were dispatched to a home off E B Gross Road where an intoxicated man was reportedly yelling, trying to fight everyone and pointing a shotgun at people. Officers arrived and found the man, 56 year old Roy Marcum Smith of East Bernstadt, there and could smell alcohol on him. Smith was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct, terroristic threatening and alcohol intoxication in a public place. He was lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center.

Laurel County Man Arrested On Burglary Charges After Alleged Home Break In

Laurel County Sheriff John Root says deputies were called out to a home off Edgewater Road where a break in reportedly occured. When officers arrived they determined someone had entered the home through a locked rear door. A young girl was in the home at the time and told deputies she saw Paul Jackson, Jr. in the living room holding two firearms which he allegedly took from a gun cabinet. When the girl confronted Jackson he left the firearms and fled. Further investigation revealed Jackson was a relative, but didn't have permission to be there. Jackson was found and arrested. He was charged with burglary and lodged him in the Laurel County Correctional Center.

Two Men Sought After Meth Operation Busted In Corbin

The Knox County Sheriff's Office says they are looking for two men after busting a meth operation. Deputies say they went to check on a report of meth being made in an out building in a wooded area near Howser Drive in Corbin. When officers arrived, two men ran away. Deputies found an active one-step meth lab and around 30 inactive one-step meth labs. West Knox Fire Department and the Kentucky State Police Haz-Mat Team were called to the location to deactivate the lab. Police have warrants for two men but did not release their names.

Knox County Police Arrest Two People In Meth And Gun Bust

The Knox County Sheriff's Office says deputies arrested two people after finding meth at a home on Hales Lane in Flat Lick. After receiving information of possible drug activity, Sheriff Mike Smith and deputies went in to investigate. They found about a half pound of crystal methamphetamine, several Suboxone strips and several unidentified pills along with scales, other assorted drug trafficking items, three weapons, two vehicles and a large amount of cash. Police estimate the meth seized has a street value of $8,000 to $10,000. Deputies say 56 year old Arthur Frank Miller Jr. was charged with trafficking in controlled substance and carrying concealed deadly weapon. Also arrested was 37 year old Barbara Stapleton was charged on a Bell County warrant for failure to pay fines on traffic charges. Miller and Stapleton were lodged in the Knox County Detention Center.
