Man Admits To Going On Deadly Crime Spree In Pulaski County

A man has admitted to going on a deadly crime spree in Pulaski County. Bret Crozier pleaded guilty to a long list of charges including murder. Police said Crozier shot and killed Albert Hail at a home in October of 2015. He later shot three other people and ended up in a high speed chase with police. Prosecutors recommended a 35-year sentence.

Police arrested a man in connection with a February Clay County shooting. A grand jury indicted Randy Jarvis for first-degree assault in early September. Officials say Jarvis shot Greg Combs, causing serious injuries.

Man Indicted In After Knox County Car Chase That Ended In Shots Fired

A Knox County Grand Jury indicted Brandon Moses on several charges, including fleeing or evading police after a July car chase that ended in shots fired. Investigators said Moses sped up when police turned on their emergency lights and led them on a car chase down US 25 east. The chase ended in a parking lot where police shot Moses after they said he threatened them.

Man Arrested After Allegedly Firing A Gun And Faking A Stabbing While Dropping Off Toddler

The Laurel County Sheriff's Office says a man fired a gun while dropping off his toddler. Justin Hampton was arrested off Robinson Creek Road after a 911 call alleged a man fired a gun during an altercation. Deputies say Hampton fired a gun in the direction of two men while dropping off his toddler with the child's mother. Hampton claimed he was stabbed in the altercation, but later admitted to planting blood on a knife to fake the stabbing. Hampton is charged with wanton endangerment, criminal abuse, tampering with physical evidence and falsely reporting an incident. He was lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.

Man Dies In Pulaski County Head-On Collision

A man is dead after a pickup truck hit his car head on over the weekend in Pulaski County. Wilford Purcell was pronounced dead at the scene. Deputies say a pickup truck crossed the center line of Hwy 461 and side swiped a semi before hitting the car head-on. The driver of the truck and a passenger were flown to University of Kentucky Hospital. The Pulaski County Sheriff's Department continues to investigate.

Deputies Arrest A Man After Two-Hour Standoff

The Laurel County Sheriff's Office says deputies arrested a man Friday night after a two hour stand-off at a home north of London. Deputies received calls about a man walking along Patton Road with a stick hitting mailboxes and causing a disturbance. When they arrived they found 37 year old Jason Patton, who threatened deputies and ran into a home where he barricaded himself for about two hours. Patton eventually came out of the home and struggled with deputies as they took him into custody. He was charged with fleeing or evading police, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and public intoxication and lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.

Clay County Murder Suspect Surrenders

Leslie County deputies say Matthew Caldwell surrendered to them Friday afternoon. A Clay County grand jury indicted him on murder and robbery charges in connection with a July shooting. Police say Jody M. Sevier showed up at the home of his ex-girlfriend July 4 and Matthew Caldwell shot Sevier, killing him. According to court records, investigators believe Angelina Grubb conspired with Caldwell to kill Sevier. Prosecutors claim after shooting Sevier, the pair robbed him. Items taken were not disclosed in the indictment. Police arrested Grubb on an indictment warrant. She faces criminal complicity to commit murder and robbery charges.

Corbin Police Warning Of Another Phone Scam

Police in Corbin are warning people about a scam involving a utility company. According to the Corbin Police Department, Corbin City Utility customers have received collection calls asking customers to pay their utility bills over the phone using prepaid credit cards and asking for personal information. Corbin City Utilities reported that this is a scam and no one from Corbin City Utilities will ever call you asking for personal information or asking you to make a payment over the phone. If you receive one of these calls, do not give out any personal or financial information and file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission here or by calling the FTC’s Consumer Response Center at 1-877-FTC-HELP (1-877-382-4357).

Man Accused Of Killing A Pastor's Widow In A Pulaski County Church Appears In Court

The man accused of killing a pastor's widow in a Pulaski County church appeared in court this week. Police say Dwight Bell went to the Denham Street Baptist Church and killed 70 year old Carolyn New, who had been cleaning the church's activity center. A detective testified that Bell went to the church while New was there asking for food because he was homeless. Police said New walked to the church activities center to get some potato chips for him. Moments after she handed Bell the chips, police say he killed her. During testimony, the detective revealed that New died from a laceration to the neck. The detective said that Bell told them he felt if he killed New, stole her car, phone, and other possessions, that he could get a fresh start. Somerset police say he confessed to New's murder. The judge sent the case against Bell to the grand jury to determine if there is enough evidence to send the case to trial. The grand jury is expected to meet in early October. Bell is in the Pulaski County Detention Center and being held without bond.
