Inmate Assaulted By Other Inmates At Whitley County Jail

The Corbin News Journal is reporting two Whitley County Detention Center inmates are facing felony assault charges after allegedly assaulting another inmate in a holding cell at the Whitley County Judicial Center. Officers charged Douglas Malone and his brother Wendel Malone with assault and disorderly conduct. The victim, Edward Herren, told officers the Malone brothers assaulted him with their fists and their handcuffs and threw him against the wall. Herren was treated at the scene by Whitley County EMS but didn’t have to be transported to the hospital. Herren was in court Monday in connection with a 2016 rape and sodomy case. The Malones were in court Monday in connection with a 2017 case involving receiving stolen property, possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Williamsburg Man Who Allegedly Drove Through The Front Of A Bank Apprehended

A Williamsburg man, who accidently drove his vehicle through the front door of a bank last week and then fled the scene on foot before police arrived, is now behind bars in the Whitley County Judicial Center. Police allege 22 year old Edward D. Smith was fleeing the scene of a hit and run accident when he struck another vehicle at a high rate of speed and then drove through the front doors of First State Financial. Police developed information that Smith was at a residence on Rice Street in Williamsburg. When police arrived, Smith and  28 year old Dustin Robertson attempted to flee out the back door, but encountered an officer and his K-9. Both were arrested and lodged in the Whitley County Detention Center. Smith was charged with three counts of failure to render aid and 10 counts of first-degree wanton endangerment along with some other unrelated charges. Robertson was charged with second-degree hindering prosecution or apprehension.

"Out Of Control" Woman Arrested In London After Allegedly Threatening Her Family

A woman was arrested in London for public intoxication and threatening to injure her family. Police responded to a complaint of an "out of control" woman. When officers arrived, they found Regina Griffe, who was under the influence of drugs. Griffe told police she had used methamphetamine and Suboxone. Police say Griffe had also threatened to seriously injure all of her family members. She reportedly continued to create a disturbance on her way to the Laurel County Detention Center. She was charged with public intoxication, terroristic threatening and disorderly conduct.

Knox County Man Arrested Twice In Two Days

The Knox County Sheriff's Office says a man was arrested for the second time in two days after deputies responded to a car crash in Bimble. Officers arrived at the scene at the junction of 25E and 1304 where a car was stuck in the median with a flat tire. Witnesses saw the car swerving on and off the road before hitting a sign. The car then crossed the median, spun around, and went back into the median where it got stuck. The driver, 19 year old Lee McDonald, was still trying to pull out of the median. During the investigation deputies determined he was driving under the influence. McDonald was arrested the day before after reports of a suspicious vehicle parked on Prichard Branch Road. He was arrested after police found 14 Xanax bars, marijuana residue on a set of scales and a pill crusher on him. McDonald was again lodged in the Knox County Detention Center.

Woman Arrested After Allegedly Trying To Run Over Her Husband

The Corbin Police Department says a woman is behind bars for trying to run over her husband and for threatening her husband and sister in Corbin. Officers were called out on a report of Dawn Faddis trying to run over her husband, Charles Faddis. Officials say she also threatened both Charles and her sister, Joy Hubbard, claiming she was going to get a shotgun and shoot them. Police found Dawn hiding behind the Corbin Recycling Center. She was waiting for her husband to leave the Police Department. Officials say Dawn did have a shotgun. Officers say Charles and Hubbard were afraid for their lives. Dawn was charged with stalking and disorderly conduct.

Whitley County Man Behind Bars Accused Of Having Sexual Contact With Girl Under 12

A man in Whitley County is facing charges for having sexual contact with a girl under 12 years old. A grand jury indicted 40 year old Peter Gerlaugh of Williamsburg. Gerlaugh is charged with first degree sexual abuse. No other details were released. He was lodged in the Whitley County Detention Center.

Man Is Sentenced To 19 Years in Knox County Murder Case

In Knox County, Patrick Baker has been sentenced to 19 years in prison for the murder of Donald Mills in 2014. Officials say Baker was sentenced to five years for reckless homicide, 12 years for robbery to the first degree, one year for tampering with evidence, and one year for impersonating a police officer. The family of Donald Mills said the verdict and sentencing was a blessing for them.

Public Intoxication Complaint Leads To Drug Arrest

The London Police Department says officers were called out on a complaint of an intoxicated woman at Big Lots. When police arrived they found 30 year old Kaci M. Moore-Brown of London and determined she was extremely intoxicated. As she was arrested officers found a burnt glass pipe with residue and several pills on her. While she was being transported to jail officers noticed her trying to conceal something. Once there a search turned up meth. A search of Moore's vehicle by the department's K-9 Jack turned up more drugs and paraphernalia. Moore was charged with tampering with physical evidence, public intoxication of a controlled substance and several other drug offenses. She was lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.

Three People Arrested In Laurel County Drug Raid

The Laurel County Sheriff's Office says detectives and deputies arrested three people on drug charges at a home off Court Road, south of London. Sheriff John Root says they had received numerous complaints about drug use there. When police arrived at the scene, 42 year old Shane Botkins ran into the bathroom, threw his phone in the toilet and tried to climb out the window. Deputies say Botkins also had a used needle with him. During their investigation, deputies found prescriptions for narcotic pills that had been filled earlier that day but were already missing 69 pills. A cut straw with residue on it was also found in the home. Also arrested was 29 year old Julie Osborne who told deputies she came to the home to get pills and 45 year old Craig Barrett. Deputies also say there was an elderly woman living at the home that was endangered and/or neglected. All three were lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.

Man Arrested In Laurel County After Using Stolen Debit Card

Laurel County Sheriff John Root says a man is facing charges after he was caught using a debit card that didn’t belong to him. Deputies arrested 33 year old Kevin Hale after an investigation led to him. Hale allegedly purchased items from Walmart and used the card at an ATM, totaling more than $2,000. He is charged with fraudulent use of a credit card. Hale was lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.
