High Speed Chase In Knox County Ends In Officer Involved Shooting

Kentucky State Police are investigating after a high speed chase on 25E in Knox County ended in an officer involved shooting. The chase ended near the Rite Aid in Barbourville. Several Barbourville Police officers and Knox County sheriff's deputies were involved in the chase. Police say 29 year old Brandon Moses of Bledsoe was driving when he failed to stop after police turned on their emergency lights, resulting in the chase. The Kentucky State Police says Moses ended the chase, got out of the car with his hand behind his back and threatened to harm officers on the scene. Officers say he would not respond to commands and police shot him. Moses was taken to Barbourville ARH and flown to the University of Tennessee Medical Center and was, at last report, in serious condition.

Laurel County Woman Arrested Accused Of Not Reporting Child Abuse

Laurel County Sheriff John Root says deputies arrested a woman accused of not reporting an incident of child abuse. Officers say 23 year old Amber Ayers is charged with criminal abuse - under the age of 12. The victim in the case told police that Ayers knew about the abuse, did not do anything about it and allowed the abuse to continue. She was lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center.

Laurel County Man Arrested After Allegedly Trying To Run Over His Wife With A Truck

The Laurel County Sheriff's Office says a man is facing charges he allegedly tried to back over his wife with a truck. Deputies say it happened on Maggard Road about 10 miles west of London. Officers responded to a home there on a domestic disturbance complaint. The investigation determined 59 year old Johnny Burdine tried to hit his wife, but she was able to dodge the truck. Burdine then reportedly backed into a neighbors tree, causing substantial damage to the neighbors yard and trees. Deputies say Burdine was at the home in violation of an active emergency protective order and that he had allegedly physically assaulted his wife. He is charged with attempted assault, domestic violence and criminal mischief. He was lodged the Laurel County Detention Center.

Woman Arrested On Several Charges After Repeatedly Calling Sheriff's Office While Intoxicated

Laurel County Sheriff John Root says deputies arrested a woman after she reportedly called the sheriff's office repeatedly for no legitimate purpose and was abusive to the operators. The woman's husband, who was out of town, contacted the Sheriff's office requesting that deputies conduct a welfare check at their home due to children being there. He also told them she had told him that she would shoot law enforcement if they showed up. When deputies arrived they were unable to get a response from inside the home. Officers forced their way in to check on the children and found Jyll Roxanna Burgett in the living room with a bag of marijuana and rolling papers. A female juvenile was found hiding inside a closet and a male juvenile was found hiding in the bathtub. Deputies determined Burgette was under the influence and after a short scuffle was taken into custody. She also threated to "blow up" deputies during her arrest. Burgette was lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center.

Man Arrested After Beating Man And Boy In Head With Club

The Knox County Sheriff's Office says deputies arrested a man after he allegedly beat a man and a 14-year-old boy with a "billy club" type stick. Jimmy Rice was arrested after reportedly attacking the man and boy. The man was found in Girdler with visible injuries to his head and upper body. The 14-year-old was found lying by a railroad track with his head covered with a bloody towel. The teen was flown to UK Medical Center. Officials did not comment on his injury. The man was treated and released at the Barbourville ARH. Rice is charged with alcohol intoxication and assault and assault.

Pulaski County Boy Remains In Coma After Bicycle Collision

An update on a story we ran earlier...A Pulaski County boy remains in a coma after a serious bicycle crash. State police say Kayden Musgrove was riding his bike on July 13th when he was struck by a car just before 9 a.m. on Murphy Avenue in Ferguson. Troopers say Kayden was riding with other kids down Newtown Street when they rode into the path of traffic. Witnesses heard the impact and rushed outside to find the boy who had just collided with the car. His family says that Kayden remains in a coma at Kentucky Children's Hospital in Lexington and has a long road to recovery. Kayden turned 11 years old.

Man Arrested Outside Courthouse After Trying To Hide Drugs

Laurel County Sheriff John Root says deputies, along with court security officers, arrested a man on drug charges outside the courthouse. Officers noticed 35 year old Donald Luther Doty of Heidrick placing a small baggie into a trashcan outside the courthouse. Police confronted him and retrieved the baggie and found a small amount of suspected meth inside it. Doty told officers he didn't want to be caught with it on him inside the courthouse. He also said he had taken meth earlier and was determined to be under the influence. Doty was charged with public intoxication – controlled substance and was lodged in the Laurel County detention Center.

Ohio Man Arrested On Gun Charges In Whitley County

A Whitley County constable recovered five firearms in connection with the investigation of an Ohio man, who is a convicted felon. The constable pulled 59 year old Bryon E. Kilgore over and after further investigation, officers went to the Cumberland River RV Campground where Kilgore and his wife had been camping for about one month. A search of his camper uncovered two rifles, one shotgun and two hand guns. Kilgore was convicted of several felony crimes in Ohio. Kilgore was arrested and charged with three counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and two counts of possession of a handgun by a convicted felon. He was lodged in the Whitley County Detention Center.

Corbin Middle School Counselor Cited To Court After Several Teens Allegedly Accessed Alcohol While At A Birthday Party At Her Home

A Corbin Middle School Counselor who was cited to court after several teens allegedly got access to alcohol while at a birthday party at her house in June, is now awaiting the appointment of a special judge and special prosecutor. The Corbin News Journal is reporting 43 year old Stephanie Pennington, who is facing one count of endangerment of the welfare of a minor, appeared in court for a pretrial conference in Whitley District Court. Corbin Police were called to the residence on June 1 after a parent of one of the teens complained that Pennington had failed to contact her after the teens had become intoxicated. Corbin Police Captain Coy Wilson, the department’s public affairs officer, said several of the teens had reportedly snuck the alcohol into the home and that Pennington was not aware they had it. A pretrial hearing is set for October 11th.

Pulaski County Man Arrested On Child Exploitation Crimes

Kentucky State Police charged a Pulaski County man with child sex exploitation crimes. Investigators say 24 year old Brandon R. Hoskins was arrested as the result of an undercover Internet Crimes Against Children investigation. A search warrant was executed at a Somerset home and equipment used to commit the crime was seized and taken to KSP’s forensic laboratory for examination. Hoskins is charged with 15 counts of distribution and one count of possession of matter portraying a sex performance by a minor. Each charge is a Class-D felony, punishable by one to five years in prison. He was lodged in the Pulaski County Detention Center. The investigation is ongoing.
