Laurel County Sheriff John Root said Deputy Bobby Roberts was called out to North Laurel Road where a man who was apparently intoxicated was reportedly trying to get into a business. As Deputy Roberts arrived, 38-year-old Patrick Melton, of East Bernstadt, stepped out of a vehicle and began throwing items onto the ground saying he hadn’t done anything and was not going to jail. During the investigation, Melton became combative creating a disturbance. Following a brief struggle, Melton was taken into custody. The vehicle Melton was in was not his, but belonged to the owner of the business. Melton was charged with alcohol intoxication in a public place, menacing, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, criminal mischief and criminal littering. He was lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center.
