A forest fire in Clay County has been contained thanks to fire crews, who are reminding citizens to be cautious during the fall forest fire season. Fall forest fire season is well underway in southeastern Kentucky, and firefighters are working around the clock to help contain some active fires. Wildland firefighters were dispatched to the fire Tuesday evening on the mountainside near Gregory Branch in Manchester. The fire spread to a total of 21 acres before reaching 100% containment, a scope that could have been much worse had the team not established fire suppression lines with dozers and complete burn backs to rid of any additional leaf litter. The current suspected cause for the Gregory branch fire is arson. While the fire is contained, firefighters are on the scene until there is no smoke or flames within the containment zone.
