Middlesboro Police Arrest Man After Hours Long Standoff

The Middlesboro Police Department reports officers responded to a dispute on Cumberland Avenue. Officers arrived to find Cody Gaines standing outside his apartment on the second floor, yelling. Officers say Gaines had a large dog and was threatening to command the animal to attack. Gaines then reportedly barricaded himself inside his apartment and a standoff ensued. Officers evacuated other occupants of the apartment building during the incident. During the standoff, officers learned Gaines possibly had a gun, and said Gaines threatened to shoot if anyone entered his apartment. After three hours, officers were able to go inside and arrest Gaines. He was charged with wanton endangerment, terroristic threatening, menacing, disorderly conduct, running from police, resisting arrest and others. Gaines was lodged in the Bell County Detention Center.
