Laurel County Sheriff John Root says Deputy Zach Allen and K-9 Sgt. Gary Mehler were called out to a home off Callie Lane on a domestic complaint. While enroute to the scene, Laurel 911 dispatch advised that the female victim had left and went to a church to get away from the suspect. Police arrived to find the suspect, 31-year-old Lyle Hammonds, there and as they spoke with him, the victim returned. She told police that he hit her in the face twice. Deputies noted redness on both sides of her face, and injuries to his hands. Lyle Hammonds was arrested and charged with assault – 4th degree and was lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center.
