This week in London, 72-year-old Mark Holbrook was sentenced to 12 months and one day in prison, along with two months of home detention, for conspiracy to rig natural gas meters. Officials said it allowed him to steal thousands of dollars from Somerset Natural Gas and Delta Gas. According to the plea agreement, Holbrook and his son, Marshall Holbrook, were working in the natural gas business for 20 years outsourcing gas for companies in Kentucky. Starting in 2016, the gas market began to substantially fall which caused the duo to begin manipulating meters on SGS and Delta pipelines. The goal was to boost their profit by altering how much gas was read on the meter. Earlier this month, Marshall Holbrook was sentenced for his role in the conspiracy. Marshall Holbrook was sentenced to four months in prison and six months of home detention. After his sentencing is over, Holbrook will be placed on supervised release for 18 months.
