The Kentucky State Police is conducting a death investigation following a reported overdose of a Clay County man, who was in custody. In the preliminary investigation, 49-year-old Shawn Gibson, of Oneida, was arrested in connection to an active warrant during a traffic stop on North Highway 66. While troopers were continuing their investigation at the traffic stop, Gibson allegedly took drugs, resulting in an overdose. Police say life-saving measures were attempted, and Gibson was transported by Clay County EMS to AdventHealth in Manchester, where he was pronounced dead by the Clay County Coroner. An autopsy was performed at the State Medical Examiner’s Office and a toxicology report is pending. The investigation is ongoing.
