The Clay County Grand Jury has indicted a Clay County mom on assault and criminal abuse charges. Kentucky State Police Post 11 troopers say they received a call about possible child abuse of a three-month-old. Police went to Saint Joseph-London where the toddler was taken. The child was then airlifted to the University of Kentucky Medical Center and at last report remains there in critical condition. The mother, 25-year-old Brianna Burkhart, faces three charges of assault in the first degree and one charge of criminal abuse in the first degree of a child 12 or under. Burkhart was lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center. KSP Detective James Royal is continuing the investigation.
