Kentucky Fish & Wildlife Warns of More Bear Sightings This Time of Year

As we get into the summer months, black bear activity is increasing in our area and Kentucky Fish & Wildlife is reminding people to be “bear wise.” John Hast with the Kentucky Department of Fish & Wildlife says during the few weeks of June, things really start to tick up with the start of breeding season. He said you have three things going on. The bears are out, we have breeding season and during breeding season, the younger males get kicked out of their areas where they were born. If you do see a bear, there are a few things you shouldn’t do. The number one thing is don’t feed them, whether it’s intentional or by leaving your garbage out. Hast says to make your presence known if you are in any areas where bears may be more active. If you want to learn more about black bears, you can visit bearwise.org.
