Williamsburg City School announced a new attendance policy for the 2024-25 school year. School officials posted the announcement on social media. They said the new policy is based on new Kentucky legislation. According to the new policy, students are allowed six healthcare provider excuses and six legal guardian excuses during the school year. Healthcare provider excuses can replace the six legal guardian excuses but legal guardian excuses cannot replace health provider excuses. Excuses must be turned in at the front office within two days of an absence or it will be considered unexcused. Once a student has 15 or more unexcused absences they are referred to the county attorney. A time-for-time policy was implemented for students who have a chronic absenteeism rate of more than 10 percent. The time-for-time policy allows students to make up instructional time that has been lost due to absences.
