Forest fires continue in eastern Kentucky, and it’s gotten to the point where it’s more than the state can handle. Alexandra Blevins of the Kentucky Division of Forestry says they have put out a call to surrounding states as well as states as far away as Oregon and Idaho to receive aid for helping get wildfires contained. Crews were able to contain the fire in Clay County; however, firefighters are keeping an eye on it as strong wind gusts could allow those embers to spread the fire even more. As of Wednesday afternoon, more than 11,000 acres have burned in Kentucky. There were still more than 60 fires either active or being monitored. Most fires in our region are human-caused, so burning right now is strongly discouraged.
