The Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office says deputies were called out to the North Hart Road area of Somerset, where a stolen excavator was found. The John Deere excavator had been reported stolen from Lakeside Memorial Gardens back in August. During the investigation, police noticed 39-year-old Christopher Shepherd walking along the road and questioned him. Shepherd acknowledged the excavator being there and claimed he had been using it. Deputies also discovered he was a former employee of the business. He also told police he had a John Deere UTV side-by-side at his home but claimed he had owned it for some time. Deputies found that it too was stolen from the same business. Shepherd was arrested and charged with receiving stolen property, selling or receiving a vehicle with a removed or altered VIN, criminal mischief, obscuring the identity of a machine and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was also charged on a district court warrant for failure to appear. Shepherd was lodged in the Pulaski County Detention Center.
