The Knox County Sheriff’s Department says deputies were called out to a crash involving a Knox County Public School bus. The school bus was transporting 35 students from Lynn Camp Elementary, Middle and High Schools along with a bus monitor. The bus was apparently hit by an SUV at the intersection of Highway 1232 and Indian Oaks Drive in Corbin. The bus was ended up nose-first over an embankment with the only emergency evacuation option being in the rear of the bus. Two of the children and the bus monitor had minor injuries as a result of the crash and were transported to Baptist Health in Corbin. The other passengers were safe. The investigation revealed the brakes had failed on the SUV and it was unable to stop at the intersection. The SUV, occupied by a male driver and his three-year-old son overturned in an embankment. The three-year-old was transported to the Baptist Health in Corbin with non-life-threatening injuries. Deputies say the child was in a safety seat and did not receive serious injury. KSP, Knox County Ambulance Service and the West Knox Fire Department also assisted at the scene.
